Raceday Update:

2008-08-18 - Pictures of the new late model are up!
2008-07-28 - Update
Just wanted to put a quick update up on the site. I crashed pretty hard about 3 weeks ago up in cottage grove and have been fighting a lot of pain in my neck and lower back since then. I went to a chiropractor and had some x-rays done and found out i have some nerve damage in my neck and my spine is all out of whack. I have started up some pretty intensive physical therapy and have been advised by the doc that during this time of rehab to quit all extra cirricular activities. I am done racing for the year and will now concentrate on getting myself healed and in better shape to handle the rigors of racing. We are going to try and be healthy enough to head to arizona again in January for their winter series. I want to say a huge thanks to all of you that have been supportive over the year and especially to my pit guys Dwayne (whom i wouldn't be racing anymore if i didn't have helping) and brandon and raymond. See you all again next year! :)
2008-07-17 - Latest news
I want to apologize for taking so long to update this site. Our last race at medford (Firecracker 50) was another in a long list of lousy nights that we have been having here at home. In our heat race we lined up in the 5th row and on the initial start, there was some contact up front and one of the cars started flipping down the front straight. I had no where to go and ended up going under the car as it was flipping in mid air with the car landing on my right rear deck and tearing that all to heck. I have never seen a view of another car like that before and hopefully never will. After that was all said and done we ended up finishing 5th in that heat race. We had to run the b-main, starting in the 3rd row and was running in 6th when i started noticing some kind of fluid coming out of the front of the car and within a lap, there was a ton of it flying up and just covering the hood and myself. I pulled off the track and found out that the rivets that were holding the radiator in place had vibrated out and allowed the radiator to fall back into the fan and the fan just rubbed right threw the fins and caused the water leak. I was so disgusted and just tired of all of the bad luck we have been happening that i have decided to take some time off. We will probably be back the 26th of July and race up at the grove. I have not figured out how to get around SOS this season and rather than keep making an idiot of myself out there, i will probably scale back on the racing and race Cottage Grove and Yreka the rest of the season. We are working on putting the late model together and bringing that out a couple of times hopefully in the middle to end of august. We will be off this coming weekend (July 19)
2008-07-01 - Saturday nite at Cottage Grove-6/28/08
We towed up to the grove saturday nite and was met with 100 degree weather. We unloaded and went out and hot lapped and the car was real good. We timed in 5th quick which put us in the 3rd row of our heat race. By lap 2 we were up to 3rd when a yellow came out and they put us back 2 cars because of the no racing to the yellow. On the restart coming out of turn two, i was running the high line going into 3 when i took it in just a little too deep and jumped the cushion and hit the marbles up on top. We flew into the yute tire and hit it pretty much wide open with the right rear frame rail. It hit so hard that it spun the car around 180 degrees in mid air and when the dust settled and the stars stopped shining (my bell was rung pretty hard) we got towed back to the pits to find that the rear clip was moved over about 2 feet but it didn't hurt any of the rear suspension. So we drove the car over to a cement slab and with the help of a tow truck were able to pull the rear clip back over. We welded up some of the bars and removed all the rear decking, sail panels and both quarter panels. The car looked pretty funny but we were able to start the main 4th row outside. the track had dried up a ton since the heat race and we were unable to make any changes to the car for it. We actually ran pretty good and hung with the front pack and passed a few cars and ended the nite in 7th. The car is up at Rayburns right now where he has had to cut off the rear clip from the tank back but he says it will be good as new and will be out this weekend to defend our firecracker 50 win from a year ago. Our luck at Medford has been horrible this year and am hoping to have a break out weekend or at least a decent finish :):)
2008-06-18 - Saturday Mod Nationals at Cottage Grove
Sorry it has taken so long to update the site. Been really busy moving my office. We timed in 11th out of 35 cars which started us on the pole of the 2nd heat. I screwed up on the first lap and fell back a few spots and was running third when i jumped the cushion in 1&2 trying to pass a car and fell back a few more spots. This put us on the pole for the B-main where we were leading it when i popped the right front tire going into turn 3. The yellow came out and we were able to get into the pits and change the tire putting us in the back of the pack in or around 14th with about 7 laps to go. We started moving our way back up tot he front and ended up in 7th. Two spots out of the transfer for the show. We went and talked to Russel Leach the promotor and he gave us a provisional to run the a-main where we started 22nd. Over the next 40 laps, we were able to work our way up to the front and finished a decent 8th. The car was real good and i actually was wishing for a few more laps at the end. The car was in good shape and we will be back at SOS (ugh) this weekend.
2008-06-10 - Saturday nite at SOS 6-7-08
The track was its usual slimy greasy surface and i am just struggling to get it figured out. We started our heat race 2nd row inside and didn't go anywhere and finished 4th. The main event lined us up in the second row outside and the car was tight and i was running in 5th when the motor started to stumble and not run right so i pulled off and put it in the trailer. We tore it apart last nite and found we had broken a valve spring. This has not been the year for good luck with the motor. We hope to have it fixed by this weekend to head up to the Cottage Grove Modified Nationals.
2008-06-02 - Saturday nite at Cottage Grove-May 31st
We decided to tow up to the grove after medford cancelled their race due to being too wet. The track ended up being very tacky and very fast. We timed in 9th out of 21 which put us in the 5th row inside for our heat race. We had a great run and ended up 5th. This put us on the second row outside for the main and quickly started moving forward and within 5 laps had taken the lead and stayed out front until we got in traffic when i got caught behind a lapped car and gus cooper from the grove got by me on the high side, i dove down low and passed the lapped car and was able to duck under gus going into 3 & 4 and regained the lead when the yellow came out. After about 4 different attempts to get the race back under way we finally got some green flag laps and was able to hold down the first spot taking our first win at the Grove. The car ran great and i just wanted to give a big shout of thanks to my main pit guy, Dwayne Melvin who worked his butt off putting our motor back together after burning a valve the previous week at SOS. We will be back at SOS this coming weekend.
2008-05-19 - Saturday at SOS-May 17
We had a very busy week trying to get our backup motor ready. We had to rob some parts and pieces from our main motor to put on the backup motor and after a couple of nites of up till around 1:30am, we got the car ready in time for the nite of racing. We also switched the rear suspension back to what we had last year. We lined up our heat race in the 3rd row inside and pretty much stayed there thus giving us another great starting position for the a-main. We were in the 6th row outside and the car actually started to work pretty good. We kept our nose clean and actually passed some cars and ended up finishing in 4th. We are going to take next weekend off and will be back at SOS on the 31st
2008-05-12 - Saturday at SOS-May 10
Another bad nite at SOS. In our heat race we made two laps before we had major engine failure. Got pushed to the pits to find out that the fluid dampner on the front of the crank had broken the snout of the crank off and shoved it thru the radiator. We loaded up and called it a nite. We will be putting our backup motor in for next weekend at SOS.
2008-05-06 - Saturday at SOS-May 3
After fighting high oil temps from the week before, i think we finally got it under control. We put a bigger oil cooler in and that seemed to help on saturday nite. Our on track handling issues still seem to be plaguing us with this new car at Medford. We lined up outside pole again for our heat and made another stellar dash to the back by the end of the race. This put us in the last row for the A-main starting 19th. This dang car just has a mid corner push that will not go away no matter what we throw at it. Thru attrition and keeping my nose clean and passing a few cars we were able to finish in 6th. A lot better from the week before but really need to figure out how to get the darn car thru the corners faster. We will again be at SOS this coming weekend.
2008-04-29 - Opening nite at SOS-April 26
We unloaded the trailer with great aspirations of having a good nite following our good outing two weeks ago in cottage grove. Boy, did we stink it up for the first nite out. We went out for hot laps and it was pretty greasy and the car was just awful. No forward or side bite and didn't go good at all. We didn't touch it for the heat thinking that the greasiness would go away and the track would come to us. WRONG AGAIN!! We looked like a monkey getting intimate with a football out there. We started outside pole and made a mad dash to the back of the heat where me and braedon hand from the grove took turns looking like two rookies trying to figure out which way was up. Our fine showing put us in the 9th row for the main event. We made some changes thinking that the track would again come to us and again, WRONG. The car was a little better and we actually had a good run going getting up to 10th. We stayed around there when i noticed the oil temp getting up pretty high so i backed off some and finally ended up pulling off the track with 2 laps to go not wanting to melt down the motor. We are going to put a bigger oil cooler in this week in hopes that will help. We are back at SOS this coming weekend. Stay tuned for more exciting stories about mad dashes to the back of the pack !! :):)
2008-04-20 - We took the weekend off due to bad weather!
SOS track was too wet to race and the management wisely cancelled. We didn't feel like towing over the hill the Yreka due the forecast calling for snow over the pass. We are running at SOS next weekend.
2008-04-14 - Saturday nite at the grove 4-12-08
Its been a while since i have posted anything here so i thought i would bring you all up to speed. We sold the Rayburn late model because the cage was too short for me. My head would hit the bars and i just wasn't comfortable with that. I bought a 06 mastersbilt and it just got here last thursday. I am not sure when we will get that out on the track, hopefully by the middle of may. We switched over to gas and am very happy with it. We test and tuned with the mod down in yreka a couple of weeks ago and had some cooling issues and ended up putting a different radiator and a bigger fan on it. We went up to the grove and took cj putnam along with us in the trailer. We had a lot of fun and had a good nite. We timed in 2nd quick which put us on the outside pole for our heat. We jumped into the lead over jesse w. and led for the first 6 laps of the race until jesse got by us and ended up finishing a close second. This lined us up again on the outside pole of the main. This time Jesse got a better start and jumped into the lead. We battled in second with gus cooper for most of the race trading spots a couple of times and ended up with a good clean second place finish for the nite. The track was rough and tacky which was to be expected for the first week of racing. The car was good and we were very pleased with the results. We are getting ready for medfords $1k to win race this coming weekend if the weather cooperates

I started uploading pictures last nite from the arizona trip and am having problems with them viewing correctly. Should have it resolved soon.
2008-01-22 - Sunday at casa grande-january 20
We started our heat race on the 3rd row outside for the final day of racing at casa grande. The track was dry again and we are really struggling to make the 2 link work on the dry slick. We ended up finishing 5th and had to run the b main where we started 5th row inside. We right away got up to 6th and was holding our own and as the track starting drying out even more we just couldn't get the drive off of the corners like the 4 bars could. We ended up finishing 9th, two spots out of transferring to the a-main. We loaded up and headed out and got home monday nite about 5:00pm. We had a great time in arizona and will definetely need to do something different on the rear suspension before heading back there next year. The old 2 link with the imca hockey puck tires just wouldn't hook up to be really competetive with the 4 bar cars. We learned a lot and had a great time and didn't tear up anything on the car. Definetely learned something about the swing arm that will work very well here at SOS. We are off now until the season begins here. We will be starting to work on getting the late model ready for the new season. I will have pictures uploaded to the site here in the next couple of days.
2008-01-20 - Saturday at casa grande-january 19
The good luck streak finally came to an end today. We started our heat race on the inside pole and right away something didn't feel right in the engine. It would not pull off of the corners and was really sluggish. We limped back to the pits to find out that a rocker arm had failed and bent a valve. We yanked that motor and put in the backup in time to check air pressures and go out for the b main starting deep in the field. Car was a handful and with 2 laps to go, we pulled off due to the oil pressure lite coming on. I was pushed back to the pits only to find that the oil drain plug had come out and the motor had lost most of its oil. We pulled the filter and put new oil in it and fired it up to make sure that we still had good oil pressure (we did) and pulled it into the trailer only to find a trail of water coming from the engine. We pulled the car back out of the trailer to find that a soft plug on the side of the block had sprouted a leak. We went into town and got a new one and replaced before heading to bed. Hopefully sunday, we can end this road trip on a good note. I will try to update after we get back home on tuesday.
2008-01-17 - Day 3 at casa grande-weds nite january 16
After being off for two days, we were eager to get back on the track for another nite of fast racing. We started our heat race on the outside 2nd row and fell immiedetely into third place. The top 3 cars pulled away from the rest of the field and we were all running pretty much the same. With about 3 laps to go, i picked up a horrible push in the corners and the car just kept on getting tighter and tighter. We fell back to fourth and finished there. Luckily they were taking the top 4 to the a mian that nite. We made some changes to the car and got ready for the main where we started on the fifth row inside. We started moving forward and were able to keep out of a couple of wrecks and was eventually running in 5th place. In preparation for the a main the track had dried out from the heat races and we were adjusting the brake bias when the cable broke and we were stuck with the brakes being adjusted to the front. Turns out the track stayed tacky in the low and top groove but had dried out in the middle groove. This was a perfect track and that car would have been great but i really needed to be able to move the brake bias to the back a little bit more because the car was tight getting in and thru the middle of the corners. We were able to maintain our position of 5th until we pushed up and over the top of the track in 3 & 4 and lost 7 positions putting us into 12 place. We were able to pick off a couple of more positions before the checkered flag fell and we ended up in 9th. Each race has shown a improvement. We fixed the brake bias today and made a few more changes that should make the car better for this weekend. I will update again on saturday nite.
2008-01-14 - case grande update-day 2
52 modifieds checked in for sundays races under a cloudless sunny day. The track was smooth and slick as ice for todays races. We started on the pole and had the lead for the first 4 laps and then the car stopped going forward. We ended up finishing 4th which put us in the b main where we started outside 3rd row. By the time the checkered fell, we had finished in a transfer position, putting us in the 11th row outside. We ran good and was up into about 12th when we got caught up in a spinning car and toeing out the front end about 4 inches. I pulled into the infield to have the crew look it over and they sent me back out. The car was really squirrely but i was able to keep it going and ended up finishing 15th. We are off until weds nite. More updates to follow
2008-01-13 - Casa Grande update #1
Today was the first day of racing down here in casa grande. We got into town on thursday afternoon. Friday we headed out to the track to get ready for the test and tune that nite. The track turned out to be tacky and very fast and we had a new setup on the rearend that turned to work very well on the tacky. On saturday they did not have any hot laps so we made some changes to get ready for a drier track and lined up 2nd row outside for our heat. At the start we got right into 3rd and within a lap we were in second and that is where we finished which put us into a transfer spot for the a-main. We started on the 5th row outside and was running in 9th for most of the race until we got caught behind a car in the high groove and got rail roaded by 4 cars before we were able to get by the squirrel. With 5 laps to go going into turn 1 we hit a slick patch and spun ourselves out into the infield and kept the car running and getting back out on to the track but lost a few spots in the process. We ended up officially 17th and put the car in the trailer in one piece. All in all, it was a good day and we have some pretty good ideas to try on the car to make it better on the hooked up rubber down fast race track. The whole field was very fast and there wasn't a lot of passing going on. I will update tomorrow nite as soon as we get back to the hotel
2007-12-19 - Merry Christmas
Just wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and to give a quick update as to what is happening with the F1 Race team for 2008. First off, we had another rayburn modified built. It is pretty much complete and we are scrambling to get it ready in time for Casa Grande in 3 weeks. We took our motor over to our builders after fernley for a freshen up and found out it needed a little more than a tune up. Turns out we had a couple of cracked pistons. We got new ones ordered and should have the motor back this next week sometime. Graphics should be here and installed later this week or right after christmas next week. We are working with Mike Lacy at Art Effects and have come up with a pretty cool design for this next season. It will look totally different than we have ever looked. On January 9th, myself, Zeus, Dwayne, and Kevin Putnam are heading to Casa Grande again for 5 nights of racing and watching super late models. I am excited with taking the new Rayburn down there. We found some stuff out at fernley back in October that i think will work really well for Casa Grande. I will be updating this site after each race so check back periodically for updates and pictures. Another exciting change that is happening for the next season is that we have gotten a late model and will be running it along with the modified out at Southern Oregon Speedway and possibly up at Cottage Grove on occasions. It is a 2005 CJ Rayburn chassis and will have a brand new P7 headed Nascar truck motor that we got back east. This motor puts out around 830 hp and should make our late model competitive. I will be posting more pictures of the late model as we dive into it after we get back from the races in arizona. Thats about it for now. MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW Year to all.
2007-10-08 - Fernley weekend of October 6-7
This was the season ending race in Fernley Nevada and we had a blast but didn't get the results we wanted to end the season on. We timed in 8th quick out of 50 cars on saturday nite. This put us on the outside pole of the second heat. We took the lead out of turn two only to give it back going into 3. Fell into second and had a good battle with a car for several laps until got a little high and got passed by another car putting us into 4th with 3 laps to go. I tried a little to hard to get the positions back and ended up spinning myself out with 2 to go. We ended up dead last and would have to run our way thru the consi mains the next day. We made a bunch of changes to the car on sunday morning trying to make it more driveable in the dry slick because of it being tight in the middle of the corners on saturday nite. The changes worked great and we started the D main in the 4th row outside and within 5 laps had taken the lead and pretty much smoked the field and took the win. Unfortunetely, in all of the excitement, i forgot to go to the tech pad after winning the D main and got disqualified for the rest of the mains. We went up and pleaded ignorance and they let us tag the back of the last chance qualifier where we started 18th and in 10 laps we had worked our way up to 5th. Unfortunetely again, the race was only 10 laps and our evening was ended. We had a great time and met some really nice people and had fun hanging out with everyone. I forgot to mention that on saturday, after running hotlaps, we had to make an engine swap due to low oil pressure in our main engine. I want to say thanks to Dwayne, CJ Putnam, my dad, zeus and all the others who pitched in and got the job done in record time. We are now off for the next couple of month and will be getting a new car ready to take to Arizona in January. Stay tuned for details.
2007-10-01 - Weekend at Tulare for the $20k to win
We had a great time racing with drivers from all over the US at the Western States Modified Nationals $20k to win show. On the first day, we started our first heat in the 3rd row inside and pretty much stayed in that position. We ended up 5th. The track promotor thought it was a good idea to haul in 60 truckloads of clay for the big event and it just made the track really rough and very tacky. On the average of 10-12 cars starting each of the nites heat races, only 3-5 would finish due to the rough track. They had a meeting after the heat races and decided to cancel the rest of the nites show due to the rough track. They continued the show on friday morning, running the consi's and main events from thursday nite. The track was a little better and not as rough but now we had to contend with clouds of dust due to it being very dry. We didn't transfer out of our consi and had to watch that main event from the stands. On friday nites show we got the car working better and ended up 4th in our heat and lined up 4th row outside for our consi where we finished 4th and was again done for the nite. On saturday the track went back to being very tacky and very very rough for that nites events. We had one more shot at making the big show and came up 2 spots short. We just couldn't get a handle on the rough track and luckily were able to put the car in the trailer in one piece. The main event started 27 cars and by the time the checkered flag flew, only 11 cars were left running and able to get off the track under their own power. We had a fun time and got to meet some nice people and race with some of the best mod drivers in the nation. We are going to get the car ready for one more show this coming weekend in Fernley Nevada on saturday and sunday.
2007-09-18 - Saturday at SOS-Sept 15 2007
Quick summary.
Qualified 14th
2nd in heat race
7th in main.
Track was tacky and fast. Finally figured out a setup that works great on tacky. Just got stuck a lap down on the first lap due to cars spinning in front of us and having to go off of the track. Season finale at SOS next weekend.
2007-09-11 - Saturday nite at Yreka-Sept 8th
Had another fun nite at the fast yreka speedway on saturday nite. We drew a terrible pill draw and started our heat race in the 3rd row. We jumped up into 4th and made the pass for 3rd a lap later and then for second another lap later. By then the leader had a straightaway lead and we started reeling him in by the time the checkered fell we had caught up with him but just ran out of time and finished a close second. They did a full invert which started us deep in the field in the 7th row inside and within a couple of laps after jumping up to the high groove we were in 4th. Had a good race with dusty jr for most of the race until the top groove went away and were forced to play follow the leader for the rest of the race. I made one more effort to jump to the high side and see if there was anything up there and got passed by Pudge. We jumped back down and finished 4th. Put the car in the trailer in one piece and will be racing at SOS this next weekend.
2007-09-04 - Lon Skinner Memorial Race
Over 70 cars showed up for this years race. We timed in 25th out of 70. In our first heat race, we started 6th and ended up 6h. In the second heat race, we started 4th and won that one. This put us in the B-main, where we started second row outside and ended up 3rd. This put us into that nites qualifying a-main starting 23rd. We needed to move up and finish in the top 12 if we wanted to transfer directly to the big show on sunday. Unfortunetely the track was hooked up and fast and everybody was hauling butt. We made it up to 15th. So, on sunday we had to run the b-main again and this time we started in the 6th row outside and had to get up to the top 6 to make it into the show. We came up 2 spots short, finishing 8th. This put us on the pole of the last chance qualifyer and we finished 2nd and got into the show. The scheduled 100 lapper was cut to 50 laps due to time constraints and we ended up finishing 14th. The track was fast and tacky and i just couldn't move up any more than that. We put the car in the trailer in one piece and will be racing Yreka this next weekend.
2007-08-27 - Saturday nite at Yreka-August 25
We towed down to Yreka because of medford being off and had a pretty good showing. We started our heat race on the pole and fell asleep and let 2 cars get past me on the first lap. I finally woke up and started driving the heck out of the car. It was actually fast on the tacky track. We got by both of them and won the heat. This put us on the pole for the trophy dash and had a good race going with Lenz and Charlton and took the lead from them until i lost it in 3&4 spinning the car out. We were able to work our way back up and finished a close 2nd behind Lenz. They drew a 12 invert which put us in the 7th row. We had a good car and were able to pass cars on the high side until the berm went away and we had to run low for the rest of the race. 2 laps from the end we were in second and on the white flag lap, going into turn one, one of their local boys thought that the only way to pass was to sideboard someone and push them out of the way. We got shoved up in the marbles and both him and Charlton got by us and we finished 4th. We will be at SOS this coming weekend for the $10k Lon Skinner Memorial race.
2007-08-22 - Saturday at SOS-Aug 18th 2007
We actually had a decent night and qualified 7th out of 30 cars. We lined up for our heat race on the pole and finished second to Wauge. This put us in the 6th row outside for the A-main and moved up a few spots. The track dried out considerably and turned into a one groove down low track. I tried running up high at various times during the race and only ended up going backwards. We jumped back down low for the remainder of the race and ended up in 10th. Been kind of frustrated with our A-main results lately and haven't figured out how to fix that. We are off at medford this coming weekend and will be running down in Yreka.
2007-08-14 - Saturday at SOS-Aug 11th 2007
Unfortunetely, our previous weeks success didn't follow us back home to SOS. We timed in a horrible 15th. We just couldn't get the car to rev over 6400 rpms. I thought maybe i wasn't driving it in hard enough so in our heat race, i started on the pole and tried driving it in harder and the car worked fine. I took the lead and decided (like an idiot) to jump up to the high line and subsequently got passed by Brian Poppa and ended up finishing second to him. The car was still not revving like it should have been. We started the A-main in the 8th row inside and the car just felt sluggish and still wouldn't turn over 6300 rpms. We ended up passing a few cars but only finished a disappointing 10th. We took the air cleaner off after the race and it was soaked in alcohol. Turns out i had a cracked float in the front bowl and it was flooding the carb with way too much fuel. At least we found the reason for the motor not running right. We are rebuilding the carb and will take the car out to the test and tune on weds. to make sure everything is fine. We are back at SOS this coming weekend.
2007-08-06 - Saturday nite at Cottage Grove
We traveled up to cottage grove and had a blast. We timed in 5th quick which started us 3rd row inside for the heat race. We were a little loose and it took a couple of laps to get a bit of momentum going and didn't really do much for that heat race and ended up 5th. We made some changes to the car for the main and started 2nd row inside and within a lap had taken the lead. They had a red flag at lap 8 due to turn 4 lites going out. After the restart, we led for another lap or so until Braedon got by us on the bottum and from there until the end of the race, we raced side by side, exchanging the lead back and forth and just having a great clean side by side race. We took the lead back with 2 to go and on the white flag lap, braedon got by again on the bottum going into one and we drag raced side by side into 3&4 and he beat me to the checkers by a car length. That was the most fun i have had in a long time and was able to put the car in the trailer in one piece with a good showing for the nite. We will be back at SOS this weekend.
2007-07-30 - Saturday at SOS-July 28 2007
Saturday nite was kind of a tough nite to race mentally. I came straight from my grandmas funeral and jumped in the car to qualify. We timed in 11th and had a sucky nite all nite. We lined up 4th row inside for the heat and finished 5th. They drew a 4 invert for the a-main and we started 6th row inside and on the first lap, got caught behind a couple of cars that got hooked up together and i had to dive into the infield to miss them and by the time i got back on the track, the rest of the field had gone by and i ended up on the tail end of the lead lap. Over the next 25 laps we were able to miss a bunch of wrecks, pass a few cars and ended up finishing 7th. The track was very dry slick and dusty in the middle to high grooves and tacky down low. Everybody was fighting for the moisture on the bottum and unless there was a wreck or somebody in front of you made a mistake, there wasn't going to be much passing. I tried moving up high for a few laps and didn't have any luck so just stuck on the bottum and stayed out of the wrecks. We will be heading to Cottage Grove next weekend as SOS has the mods off that nite.

2007-07-24 - Saturday nite at Yreka-July 21
We had planned on running in cottage grove this weekend but the weather didn't look too promising so i decided to head over the hill to Yreka. There was only 13 cars and we lined up in the second row of the second heat race and did just horribly. The track was still a little slimy from them watering it too much and i just sucked. We ended up dead last which lined us up dead last for the main event. We made some changes to the car and took off. By lap 10 we were up in second and all over the back of travis peery. We ended up second right behind peery at the checkered. They cut the main event down from 25 laps to 15 and we just ran out of time. I think in another lap or two we would have gotten by him. The car was good and didn't suffer any damage, so it was a good weekend. We are heading back to medford this weekend.
2007-07-17 - Saturday nite at Cottage Grove
We had a pretty good nite up at Cottage Grove Saturday nite! We timed in 6th which put us on the 3rd row outside for the fast heat race. When the checkered fell, we had worked our way up to 2nd. This got us in the trophy dash on the 2nd row inside and finished 3rd in that race. They drew a white pill for the main line up which was a straight up start from the finish of the dash. This put us again, in the second row inside where we pretty much ran the whole race in 3rd or 4th place for the entire race. We had a good race with Gus Cooper and Ronny Wilson for most of the race and finished the race in 3rd place. The track was smooth and tacky up high and low with it drying out in the middle. Would have liked to see it completely dry out but it didn't. We will be back up at the grove this coming weekend. Check out the camera cams from up there. We had 2 of them, one pointed out front and the other pointed out back. Pretty cool. We also put the camera on the pull bar for qualifying to get an idea of how much the pull bar moves under acceleration.
2007-07-09 - Firecracker 50 at SOS
The staff at SOS really listened to the racers this week. They put a lot of effort into the prep of the track this week and it showed off. The track was smooth from the beginning and very slick. :) We started our heat race on the outside pole and led it for the most part until Skipper and Severson got by me when i decided to see if there was any traction up high.(there wasn't) We got back by severson in 3&4 on the white flag lap and finished 2nd. We threw the setup that we had won with last month for the big 50 lap main event and started on the outside pole. We jumped into the lead and for the next 50 laps were able to hold off the advances of Severson and took the checkered flag and the thousand bucks home for the PSI sponsored mighty mopar modified. I really appreciate Jerry Severson racing me cleanly the whole race. He had the chance a couple of times to rougn me up but instead backed off. I won't forget that and will recprocate that if and when the opportunity arises. Special thanks to my main pit guy Dwayne Melvin for the countless hours he puts into helping me out week after week. Also to the Putnam boys, RJ,Ashley, Linda, Pat & Chuck. You guys are awesome to pit by each week and I have really enjoyed the friendship that you have extended to me and my family.
We will be racing at the Grove for the next couple of weeks since the mods are off at SOS.
2007-07-02 - Saturday nite at the moto cross track at SOS!!!!
I am starting to see an alarming trend at medford that started about a month ago. The tracks have been progressively getting worse and worse each week. This week had to top the charts as rough and tacky. It took about an hour to mud in the track because the idiot that preps the track thought it needed about 20 truckloads worth of water on the day of racing. It immedietely rutted up and the nite was set for some nasty racing. We timed in 13th, by far the worst we have done so far this season. Our heat race started us 2nd row inside where we pretty much bounced and jostled around and ended up in 5th at the checkered. The main found us in the 7th row inside and the track was just awful. It was so rutted up in the corners and straights that i just didn't have a clue on where to drive so i just made it a point to stay out of trouble and try to run the cleanest race possible. We ended up in 10th at the checkered due to the fact that half the field in front of me fell out due to mechanical failures to to the rough track. I don't think i passed one car the whole race. I am confident that we are now out of the points lead in that wauge and estramado both had good nites and finished in front of me in pretty much every catagory. The only good thing about this nite was that we didn't put a dent in the car or tear anything up. We just weren't fast enough to tear anything up i guess :):) Hopefully SOS can fire the idiot prepping the track and get the tracks back to where they were in the beginning of the season.
2007-07-02 - No in car video this week!
Apparently a piece of mud (go figure with that wet crappy track)hit the lens of the camera and made it pretty cloudy for the whole race. Will try something else for next week.
2007-06-20 - Saturday at SOS-June 16 2007
Sorry so late with the update. The nite was a good nite until the checkered flag. We timed in 6th out of 28 cars and started our heat race in the 2nd row inside. The track was a weird track again with it being smooth and slick in 1&2 and rough slimy and tacky in 3&4 and we struggled with the car and ended up finishing 4th. We made some changes and got ready for the main and started 4th row inside. The track was still different in each corner but the changes we made worked pretty well. We started moving up and by lap 12 was in second place challenging for the lead. We had a yellow come out and when racing resumed the car started getting tighter in 3&4 and had a couple of cars get by us dropping us to 4th. Got caught up in a couple of spinning cars and raced back to the yellow in 3rd place. We were able to maintain 3rd and caught lapped traffic on the white flag lap. While taking the checkered, a couple of the lappers got tangled together and we had to check up to miss them and got hit from behind and got spun about a 100 feet past the flag stand where we stalled with our nose up against the front straight wall. I got to watch the rest of the field race to the checkered flag narrowly missing my car. Unfortunetely, one car was in the high groove coming out of 4 and didn't see us until too late and drilled us in the right rear quarter panel, completely spinning us 180 degrees. He must have been doing about 85 and just rung my bell. It completely destroyed the back half of the car. You can see pictures of the car under photos on this web site. Luckily it didn't hit any of the rear suspension and the chassis builder (Bruce Rayburn) said he will have it re clipped and ready for us by the next mod race at Medford (June 30th) We are off this weekend and going camping. Talk to ya in a couple of weeks.
2007-06-11 - Saturday at Yreka-June 9th
We hadn't planned on racing at yreka but medford called their races due to the chance of rain so we headed out to race down there. 27 mods showed up and we lined up 2nd row inside for our heat and ended up 3rd. The car was loose and not able to make much headway. We tightened the car up for the main and got a good draw for the main. We started outside pole with Kevin Putnam on the inside. The track totally dried out up high and there was a good one lane groove down low. kevin jumped into the lead and i fell in behind him and pretty much followed him for majority of the race. On the next to last lap, i jumped up high hoping that there was something up top but it was just too dry and CJ, Kevins brother, got by me on the white flag lap and we finished 3rd. The car was ok but i had nothing for kevin. We are putting the big motor back in this week after having to take it out after breaking a couple of rockers a few weeks ago. We will be back up at Medford this next weekend.
2007-06-04 - Saturday at SOS-June 2nd
We had a pretty good nite this weekend. We timed in 6th overall which put us on the outside pole of our heat. We led most of it until wauge passed us with 2 to go and finished in second. Lined up 6th row inside for the main and on the first lap coming out of turn 2, a rock hit the on/off switch for our master electric switch and turned off all power to the car. By the time i figured it out and turned it back on and fired the motor, we had fallen to last place. The track was smooth and dry and we started heading to the front. The 20 lap feature was run totally under green and when the checkered flag fell we had gotten back up to 8th position. Who knows what would have happened if we hadn't had the problem with the switch but the way the car was handling, i feel we would have been up there battling for the lead. We will be at Medford again this next weekend.
2007-05-29 - Cottage Grove Nationals
Friday nite we timed in mid pack and started our heat race 3rd row outside. We had to finish in the top 4 to transfer to the qualifying A main later that nite. We finished 3rd in the heat and started us 7th row inside for the main. The track was hooked up tacky fast and very rough. We actually got the car working pretty well and was up in a transfer position with one lap to go when the right rear rim center section tore out and we limped accross the finish line in 10th. After post race tech, 2 cars got dq'd due to rules infraction which moved us up to 8th spot, locking us into the big money show for saturday nite. :):) Saturday turned out to be very sunny and hot and played a big part in the track drying out for the main. We started the main in the 8th row inside and started moving forward. By mid point of the race we were up into the 8th spot and had some good battles going with various cars. About then i started noticing the engine starting to lay down on the restarts. It felt really lazy and wouldn't really take off when the green flag waved. It would be ok once we got going and i was able to move up to 6th by the time the checkers fell. We pulled the valve covers off after the race and found 2 more broken intake rockers. This is the 3rd race in a row where we have broken rocker arms. I am going to take the set of rockers off of our backup motor and order a new set that will be here in a couple of weeks. I guess finishing 6th on only 6 cylinders wasn't too bad. We will be at medford this weekend
2007-05-21 - Saturday at SOS-May19th-2007
The nite started pretty good this weekend. We qualified 3rd quick out of 25 cars. This put us on the outside pole of the dash along with Alfrey, Wauge and CJ Putnam. We jumped into the lead with Wauge nipping at my tails the whole race. We were able to hold him off for our first dash win of the year. We started our heat race in the 3rd row outside and finished 5th. The track was tacky and hooked up on top and greasy in the middle and down low. We drew a 4 invert which put us on the outside pole for the main event. We took the lead and lead for a few laps before wauge got by us down low. We entered lap traffic pretty quickly and i ducked low to get past the lapped cars and got freight trained by about 4 cars before i was able to get back up in the groove. We ran in 5th for about 7 laps before getting caught up by a spinning car that took out a bunch of the front suspension parts and tore off the right side of the car. We fixed it and came back out a few laps down but was able to finish in front of Wauge. Right now Wauge and i are in the lead for the points. He had a bad nite also, burning up a ignition box. The track was tacky and hooked up with a lot of ruts. It seems people like the rough tacky tracks so Rapps are trying to be accomadating to those select few and watering the heck out of the track. Problem is, when its hooked up and rought like that, it tears up a lot of equiptment. I just hate those type of tracks because i just suck on them. I am going to have to work harder on getting the car freed up and more driveable when the track is like this. We are heading to the grove next weekend for their 2 day race.
2007-05-16 - Saturday at Yreka
26 cars showed up for the John Arnberg 50 lap $1k to win memorial race. We started our heat race on the pole and won it. In the trophy dash, we started 2nd row outside and finished 2nd to debenedetti in that one. This put us on the 6th row outside for the 50 lapper. Around lap 18, we had worked our way up to 5th and a caution came out. On the restart, going into 1&2, travis peery and scott lenz got together and i had nowhere to go. I hit peerys car, bending the pitman arm and center link toeing the car in about a inch and a half. We were able to stay on the lead lap until the 25 lap break and headed to the pits to get the damage fixed. My pit guys got it fixed and we made it out and had to start the second 25 at the back of the pack. We slowly worked our way up and the track had gotten super rough coming out of 4. We managed to salvage a 6th place finish and had a couple of things to fix this week. We will be at Southern Oregon Speedway this coming weekend. Thanks to Bruce Rayburn and my pit guys for all the help getting me back on to the track on time.
2007-05-10 - Update
I changed my mind about racing the grove this coming weekend and instead will be heading down to Yreka for their John Arnberg $1k to win race on saturday.
2007-05-07 - Saturday at SOS-Got er dun!!!
We finally got the monkey off of our back at SOS this weekend. We qualified 5th quick out of 30 mods and started our heat race in the 2nd row inside. We fell back to 4th and got to 3rd and finished there. The track again went dry slick but had some moisture up high. We made some pretty radical changes to the rear end to see what it would do and boy was it a handful. On the start it felt like the car was hiking up the lf wheel about 2 feet. The car was super fast out of the corners but was a real chore to drive. We started passing cars and about 10 laps into it, we were in 3rd behind Kevin putnam and wayne kniffen. I got by kevin on the outside and set sights on wayne. I caught him a lap later and dove down low in 1 and passed him coming out of 2. With 6 laps to go a yellow came out and bunched up the field and for the next 6 laps, kevin and wauge were on my bumper. They could catch me in the corners but we would just leave them out of the corners and down the straights. We took the checkered with Kevin close on my heels. The car didn't have hardly a scratch on it and is heading up to Rayburns to try to figure out how to get it calmed down. We will be racing up at the grove this next weekend in preparation for the 2 day mod nationals at the end of may.
2007-04-30 - Saturday at SOS-April 28th
I didn't get much sleep friday nite due to the fact that the last time i had raced at SOS, i ended up flipping down the front straight away. I was a little nervous at how the nite would go but as soon as i strapped into the car and went out for hot laps, the nervousness went away. The car was good right out of the gate. I went out to qualify and the car was tight in the corners and i came off the track discouraged thinking that my qualifying time wouldn't be that good. Turns out we qualified 3rd quick out of 30 cars. This put us in the dash on the outside pole along with Wauge, Poppa and DeBenedetti. Wauge got a good jump at the green and he led the first couple of laps with me in second and poppa and debenedetti in tow. Jon got by us going into turn 3 and we fell back into 3rd. Going into 1&2, him and wauge made contact allowing Poppa got get by me. Wauge fell back to 4th and i followed poppa and debenedetti to the white flag. Going into 3, i dove down low and got by poppa coming out of 4 and finished 2nd in the dash. We made some changes to the car for the heat race and went out and started 2nd row inside and the car was a little loose and we ended up finishing 4th. We made more changes for the a-main, starting 3rd row inside. By lap 2 we had made it up to 2nd and ran there for about 5 laps before Jon D. got by us and we raced with him for a few laps before Brian Poppa got me down low going into turn 4. We had a great battle for 4th with Dave Duste Jr. and with about 4 laps to go, i made the move down low and raced with duste for another lap before finally clearing him and took the checkered flag in a solid 3rd place. The new Rayburn chassis has been surprisingly fast on the dry tracks and i have been very happy so far with it. We will be racing at SOS again next weekend, weather permitting
2007-04-25 - Saturday April 21st races were rained out.
We will be racing at Medford on April 28th
2007-04-16 - Sunday at Yreka
Saturdays races at Yreka were called due to rain and rescheduled for Sunday afternoon. We started our heat race on the pole and won that. This put us in the dash with Wauge, Braedon Hand from Cottage Grove, Dennis Silva and myself. We started second row inside. Taking the green flag, we moved up into second and started working on Wauge. He pushed up high in 3&4 and we were able to get by him. He took the lead back the next lap. He got tight again in the same corner on the white flag and we were able to slip by him and took the checkered for our first trophy dash of the season. We started the main event 6th row outside and started racing and moving slowly to the front. By midrace we were in 7th and had good races going with Peery and Silva. I finally got by them with about 5 to go and started working on Charlton. He was running the high groove and i was down low. I could get him in 1 & 2 but he would get me back each time in 3&4. I was tight in 3&4 and couldn't get the car to rotate thru the corners fast enough. I passed him coming out of 2 on the white flag and we raced down the back straightaway where i had a lead going into 3 but he had more momentum and was able to take the lead coming out of 4. We drag raced to the checkered where he beat me by about a 1/2 car length. It was a good nite of clean smart racing and we put the car in the trailer with only a tire rub mark on the right rear panel. We are working with the chassis builder to try and figure our why we have that mid corner push and once figured out, we should be even faster. We are racing at Medford this coming weekend.
2007-04-02 - Pictures of new Rayburn chassis are posted
2007-03-19 - Saturdays results from Marysville
We travelled down to Marysville saturday along with Travis Peery from Yreka. We got about as far as Shasta lake when the rear trailer tire blew out. Luckily we had a spare and got it changed and were back on the road after about an hours delay. We got to the track and got ready to go out and hot lap. They had put down a bunch of new clay over the winter and the track was just horrible. They had only 9 modifieds show up and we started dead last in our heat race. The car was just a handful and was bouncing all over the place due to the rough track surface. At one point, going into turn 3, we caught a rut and the car almost flipped over. I had one fan come down afterwards and comment that they could see the bottum of the car it got so high up on its right side tires before coming back down. We made some changes to the car for the a-main and went out expecting the worse. On the green flag coming out of turn 4 we caught a rut and pulled apart the left rear coil over eliminator which sheared off the left rear brake line. We flew into turns one without any brakes and went off the top of the track breaking the left front upper a-arm and shock. Suffice it to say that our night was over again early in the race. I don't know what i was thinking taking the 4 bar car down when i knew the track was going to be rough. I just didn't think it would be that bad. Only 4 cars finished the a-main out of the 9 that started. We will be finishing up the new rayburn car this week and getting it ready for Yrekas test and tune on the 31st of March. I wish we would have taken that car down because of the 2 link rear suspension would have handled the rough track a lot better.
2007-03-15 - Latest news
We have purchased a new car for this 2007 season. We will be picking up a new Rayburn chassis to run exlusively at Southern Oregon Speedway this season. I have just had bad luck with 4 bar rear suspension cars at this track because of it always being rough and tacky. The new rayburn will have a simple 3 link rear suspension and should handle the rougher tracks better. I will still have the Missile chassis to run at yreka and other tracks that are typically dry slick and smooth. We are getting the missile chassis ready to head to Marysville this coming weekend (March 17th). They are having a $1k to win mod show and the weather is sunny and warm so we are going to take advantage of a chance to race early in the season. I will update sometime next week to let you know how we did.
2007-01-26 - Photos page is updated with pics from arizona
2007-01-20 - Weds nite at casa grande
Sorry for the late update, but we have just been having bad luck altogether. We went out for the heat race and ran terribly and ended up finishing 6th. This put us in the b-main and ran better until a late race caution and on the restart the motor started popping and sputtering and that ended the nite for us. We changed the distributor, wires, cap and rotor to try to fix it for the races on saturday.
2007-01-20 - Saturday at Casa Grande
The day brought high expectations for us in the hopes of having a better day. We went out for our heat race starting 3rd row inside. The car was just horrible. The motor problem seemed to be taken care of but the car would not turn in the corners. We ended up finishing towards the back and had to run the last chance qualifier. We made some changes to the car. The rear end was not square at all in the chassis and the rear end was actually cockeyed in the car. We got it straighten out and made a couple of other changes and went out to the race and actually was able to hang with the rest of the cars. The car would handle thru the corners but seemed to appear to be down on power. As the race progressed, the motor started popping again and just wouldn't come out of the corners. We actually finished in a transfer spot and was getting the car ready for the b-main when we decided to pull the valve cover to see if there was anything causing the mis firing. We found a broken rocker shaft and the push rod completely out of the hole. We were done for the nite. We have one more shot tomorrow to end the week long frustrations that we are going thru.
2007-01-14 - Sunday at casa grande
Tonite was a much better nite for us. We headed this morning to phoenix to the chassis builders to make some major changes to the car. We got to the track too late to run hot laps and had to start the last heat. We started the heat race 3rd row outside and again, going into turns one and two got turned around by the car behind us. This cut down the left front tire but decided to stay out and see what happened. The car actually wasn't that bad for having a front left flat. We worked our ways from 12th up to 6th and headed for the last chance qualifier where we started 5 row inside. We fell back a couple of spots to 14th before i finally pulled my head out of my rear end and started driving the car. The changes we made to the car were really good and worked our way up to 7th, one spot out of the transfer position. We are off for a couple of days and will race again weds nite.
2007-01-13 - Saturdays update from Casa Grande
The first day of racing in arizona didn't start out good for the PSI modified race team. We got to arizona last nite at 8pm after traveling for 24 hours straight. We got caught up in some bad traffic jams north of San Bernadino due to snow showers the previous nite. We ended up sitting in traffic for about 2 hours before being able to turn around and backtrack for an hour. That ended up costing us about 5 hours of extra travel. Anyways, we got to the track last nite in time to run a set of hot laps and the motor was not running right and finally just quit as we pulled into the pits. Turned out the coil in the distributor shorted out. Luckily we had a spare and got it fixed and went out for another hot laps. The motor would still not pull out of the corners so we loaded up and got ready for todays racing. We got to the track and got ready for the day of racing. We drew the #1 pill and started the first heat on the pole. At the green flag we went into turns 1 & 2 and coming out of 2, the car behind got a little antsy and drove into our left rear panel and started to spin me out. The car below him had no where to go and drove over the left front and ended up completely on top of my hood, crushing the hood, air cleaner and carb bolt. Another car plowed into the left rear as we were sitting on the track, shoving the rear end over about a foot, bending all the 4-bars, j-bar and bending the bird cage mounts for the four bars. Luckily i had plenty of help and we got the car back in shape to be raced in the last chance qualifyer where we started 18th and got up to 10th by the time the checkered fell 15 laps later. The car was super loose and it was just a handful to keep it straight and not spinning it out. We will be taking it up to the chassis builders up in phoenix in the morning to make some changes and throw it up on the scales. We got the wreck out of the way so now it is time to go racing. Tomorrow is another day race so i will update as soon as we get to the motel
2007-01-02 - January update
Just wanted to put another update. We just about have the car ready for arizona. We had both engines rebuilt and just took out the backup after installing it and firing it and making sure it was ready to be run. We took it out last nite and will have the primary motor back from the engine builder later this week. We are leaving next thursday after work and driving straight thru to casa grande. They have a test and tune on friday nite and then races both sat and sun. I will try and update the site after each nite of racing.

About Monte Bischoff

In 2004, Monte brought out a new BMS chassis, 360 c.i. Mopar powered Modified. With state of the art equipment, and the only Mopar powered Modified in Southern Oregon and Northern California, Bischoff hoped to be a contender at his local tracks.

For a rookie, Bischoff let the boys know he was there, with wins in 7 heat races, and 2 trophy dashes. Racing primarily at Southern Oregon Speedway and Yreka Raceway, he had numerous top-5 finishes at both tracks. During a big-money, 2-day event at Cottage Grove, Monte went from starting 14th during the main event to finishing 4th at the checkered flag, earning him his biggest pay day of the season.

With a new BMS chassis and an additional engine in the works, Bischoff looked for great things for 2005. While spring rains washed out several events at Southern Oregon Speedway, he headed south to Yreka. During his 3rd race of the season, he scored his first A-main victory, defeating many of the hottest modifieds in Southern Oregon and Northern California. The same night, he doubled up, heading back to Medford, winning the B-main, and was in 4th place, in the A-main, when rain called the event. A big pile-up at Yreka in June dictated the need for another new BMS chassis. With a new car in July, Bischoff went on to several B-Main wins at Southern Oregon Speedway along with numerous top 10 A-main finishes, trophy dash victory at Cottage Grove, and several heat race wins at various tracks.

In 2006, the F1 race team has made the switch to a new chassis builder. We want to welcome DRS Missile chassis from Mesa, Arizona to our team. We have also added another strong mopar to the stable. The new car will have a 415 cubic inch, 700 horse power small block Mopar engine under the hood.
